Parkway Elementary School students recently participated in the Pennies for Patients initiative organized by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s School and Youth Programs.
The character education and philanthropy program, which ran from March 3-20, provided students with the opportunity to help thousands of children fight blood cancers. Students received individual donation boxes, which they used to collect spare change, and they organized a specific theme related to the cause on Thursdays throughout the month.
Themes included “Team Up Against Leukemia,” where students wore their favorite sports or team attire to display their support on March 6; “Spread Love for a Cure,” where students and staff wore red attire on March 13; and “Pennies for Pajama Day,” where students wore pajamas in support of the fundraiser on March 20.
In total, Parkway collected $2,170.92 as part of its campaign. The top fundraising class was Ms. Arnold’s second-grade class, which raised $234.43 for the cause.
