W.T. Clarke Middle School in the East Meadow School District hosted its Hoops for Heart program from Jan. 24-31.
During physical education classes, students learned about heart disease and the dangers of smoking, proper nutrition and the cardiovascular system. Students participated in a variety of basketball exercises in the gymnasium, including dribbling, passing and lay-ups, which promoted the importance of being physically healthy and remaining active.
The program also raised money to support research for heart disease. All proceeds raised by the school will benefit the American Heart Association.
