Bowling Green Elementary School fifth-graders recently visited the Buehler Challenger and Science Center in New Jersey. The center provides unique hands-on experiences which raise students' expectations of success, foster in them a long-term interest in science, math and technology, and motivate them to pursue careers in these fields.
During their field trip, the fifth-graders in teacher Richard Santer’s class worked as astronauts in the center’s space station simulator, learned how to utilize different controls and gadgets in the station, and united to work as a team while learning about science.
Students later held a “press conference” in class on what they learned during their trip. Students in different teams crafted and read press releases and gave presentations showcasing their new knowledge, while fellow students posed questions. The field trip made for a fun and educational learning experience which students will not soon forget.
