Woodland Middle School Eighth-Grade Winter Concert Delights Community

Parents, faculty and administrators were mesmerized by Woodland Middle School’s eighth-grade winter concert on Jan. 22. The program featured a variety of musical selections performed by the jazz ensemble, orchestra, chorus and concert band. The jazz ensemble, directed by John Marshall, opened the event with “Cold Duck Time” by Eddie Harris and “Gertrude’s Bounce” by Richie Powell. The orchestra, directed by Mindy Lamonica and accompanied by concertmaster Jolie Rebelo, performed several tunes, including “Ukrainian Bell Carol” by James Ployhar and “Overture to die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss. Directed by Jonathan Ross and Rachel Fogel, the chorus performed an impressive set of songs, including “Magic to Do” by Stephen Schwartz and “Gone Gone Gone” by Todd Clark, Derek Fuhrmann and Gregg Wattenberg. The concert band, directed by Stephen Engle, concluded the evening with several pieces, including “As Tears Fall on Dawn’s New Light” by Richard Saucedo and “Aladdin” by Alan Menken.
