Both East Meadow High School and W. T. Clarke High School have been named two of the best high schools in the nation, ranking No. 233 and 317, respectively, on Newsweek’s 2014 list of America’s Top High Schools. More than 14,000 schools nationwide were considered in the annual ranking.
The prestigous ranking places both high schools in the top 2 percent nationally. In addition, the district’s high schools are also two of only eight Nassau County schools to make the top 500 list.
According to Newsweek, the methodology for the list is based on the following factors:
• College Enrollment Rate• High School Graduation Rate• Weighted AP/IB scores• Weighted SAT/ACT scores• Change in student enrollment between ninth and 12th grades• Counselor-to-Student Ratio “The East Meadow School District is proud to have both of its high schools recognized on Newsweek’s list of America’s Top High Schools,” said Superintendent of Schools Louis R. DeAngelo. “This recognition is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our teaching staff, which I believe is second to none. As our students continue to challenge themselves by engaging in a rigorous and rewarding curriculum, and as our faculty continues its mission to ensure college and career readiness for all students, I look forward to the continued success of our East Meadow schools.”
