During an assembly for students at Barnum Woods Elementary School, the “Golden Rule” rang true. Motivational speaker Joe Trionfero’s “Show of Love” presentation not only reiterated the many principles that are taught through the school’s character education program, but also highlighted the fact that everyone can empathize with others if he or she listens and pays attention to body language. “You can hear what someone else feels,” Mr. Trionfero told the students. “Relationships with others are about understanding what another person is feeling.”
Although “Show of Love’s” main objective was to emphasize the principles of respect and kindness, it also touched on listening to others with “your ears, eyes and heart.” Mr. Trionfero instructed the students to place themselves in another person’s shoes before making a judgment. He pointed out that you can “stop the hurt” by taking control of cruel actions and criticism.
