A new exhibition, entitled “Sensorship,” was created in the School Store Gallery at W.T. Clarke High School in the East Meadow Union Free School District, featuring the artwork of seven students from the REACH (Recognizing and Encouraging Accomplishments in Children) program. The exhibition was developed, directed and coordinated by art teacher Shari Zimmerman and her son Drew.“Sensorship” is an interactive exhibit where one can recreate the sensory experiences of those that differ from the average viewer’s. The show included seven stations. Each station represented a different viewer sensation and showcased a different student’s artwork. The stations, which were constructed to be interactive, included art reflected in a mirror, kinetic mobiles hung from the ceiling, and an abstract that was enlarged and then minimized to be viewed through the use of a microscope (titled “Micro-Macro”). The artwork itself drew inspiration from sumi-e brush paintings of landscapes, with an intensity that focused on movement and saturated colors. A reception held on Monday, March 28, included family and friends of the artists, as well as faculty and administration. The show ran from March 28 through April 8 in the School Store Gallery at Clarke High School. Congratulations to the students who participated in this enlightened exhibition!
