The Nassau Educators Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) selected Marge Sweeny and Wendy Wansor, advisors of the Student Government Club at Clarke Middle School in the East Meadow Union Free School District, as grant recipients. NEFCU’s Teacher Grant program offers financial assistance to teachers wishing to supplement their regular curriculum with special projects.
The $250 grant will be used by the Student Government to create welcome kits for the new sixth graders entering Clarke Middle School in September. The project is called “Easing the Transition into Middle School with Welcome Kits for the Class of 2014. “
The entire school community of students, teachers, administrators, secretaries, custodians, cafeteria staff, and parents will be invited to contribute helpful hints and pearls of wisdom to a school how-to guide as part of the Middle School Survival Kit. Clarke Middle School is hoping that the manuals and kits will make the incoming class feel welcome and excited about entering middle school. The welcome kits will be presented to each new sixth grader on the first day of school in September.
