First-graders at Barnum Woods Elementary School recently participated in science workshops about the solar system hosted by Mad Science of Long Island, a leading science enrichment company.
Mad Science instructor David Pomeranz led first-graders in Anna Cangelosi’s class on a fun and educational lesson on the solar system. Mr. Pomeranz discussed the moon and individual planets in detail. Students wore planet nametags and held different size balls to illustrate the drastic differences in size among planets.
When provided with images of planets to view, students were challenged to guess their sizes and climates, as well as the proximity between planets. Mr. Pomeranz also spoke with students about planet movement, gravity and solar eclipses.
Students were eager and enthusiastic throughout the workshop, and promised to continue reading and learning more about their solar system.
