The East Meadow High School Chapter of the New York State Science National Honor Society inducted 53 new members on Feb. 25. The Science National Honor Society was established in 2000 in Texas and has since expanded to 835 chapters in 44 states. Its purpose is to encourage students to participate in community service and, in turn, encourage a dedication to the pursuit of scientific knowledge, which benefits all humankind. The 10th annual induction ceremony at East Meadow High School included introductory remarks from the chapter’s president, Nathan Siegelaub, and a candlelighting commemoration by the Science Honor Society board. Chapter advisers Karen Blinder and Kenneth Nyer then officially inducted new members into the society. Members of the society pledged to be involved in school activities and community service, while displaying excellence in the areas of leadership, service and character.
